As part of Love Your High Street Week, the winners from Brixham, Paignton and Torquay were presented with their Torbay Love Your High Street Hero Award.

The three businesses who received their trophy, made by local business Studio 56, were Twit Twoo, The Lions Monocle and Green Leaf Cafe.

Councillor Richard Haddock, Executive Lead for Business, said: “These awards recognise businesses that are valued on the high street by locals and visitors because they provide exceptional customer service and are exactly the type of business our town centres need, making them a great place to shop.

“The number of nominations emphasises just how important local businesses are to local people and we will continue to support these businesses and encourage more to join our town centres and be part of Torbay’s great business community.”

The winning businesses are rightly very proud of their achievements and the recognition they have received from locals.

Indianna Carlino, Owner of The Lions Monocle, said: “We are all incredibly grateful for our anonymous nomination and to have won such a fabulous award in the first two months of opening! Again, a massive thanks to our nominator, TDA and the judges.”

Colin Ross, Owner of Green Leaf Café, said: “I am a great believer in trying to shop locally whenever possible and the support which you give to independent businesses is a significant bonus to us all. To be awarded the High Street Hero was a wonderful surprise for the whole team at Green Leaf Cafe.  We are proudly displaying our awards in the cafe and would like to congratulate the other winners in Paignton and Brixham.”

Love your High Street received over 77 nominations, highlighting local people and businesses that really make a difference to shopping experiences in Torbay.

Of the 77 nominations, 15 businesses were shortlisted and received a certificate as recognition for their efforts. These were Curious Kitchen, Fairalls Fruit and Veg, Colours of Brixham, Simply Fish, from Brixham, Purple Valley Designs, Torbay Bookshop, Axworthys Stationers, Tyrrells, from Paignton, and Light Options, Gilberts Pet Shop, Heart of Torbay, Fiesta Red, from Torquay.

As well as the certificates and trophies, the businesses will receive free business support from TDA Business, including a business diagnostic.

Love your High Street week is a campaign delivered by TDA which encourages local people to shop on their local high street and helps spread the message about why spending locally is so important.

The next Love Your High Street Week is taking place in December.
